Raj And Simran, Ved And Tara: The Pandemic Had Many Phases Of Love

raj and simran, ved and tara

Love is a funny thing. Sometimes you meet a new person, and sometimes you already have a person with whom you are weaving a story. The pandemic, the kebab mein haddi (one who interrupts), caused a major shift in people’s love lives.

From Tinder to old school romances, everybody has had their journey. From video calling, having dates online to finally meeting the person. From feeling like having a love story like Raj and Simran to feeling like Ved and Tara, the pandemic had all types of phases.

Each moment has its importance to understand human relations somehow better and understand ourselves and our partners’ needs. Talking about relationships, it’s hard to forget Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge and Tamasha. The two movies have my heart.

Dear Simran and Raj,

Your love story was never perfect but definitely too filmy. You give us hope that love is eternal and has its struggles. You give us the strength to fight for your partner, to look out for them and be there for them. You show us that loving is a choice. You choose to be with the person and fall in love over and over again.

Dear Tara,

Waqt laga tumhare ise pyaar ko samajhne mein par samajh mein aa raha hai (It took me time to understand your time, but now I’m finally understanding it).

Tum Don ko dhundhti hui nikli thhi, mushkil thha samajhna ki Ved hi Don hai. Dil toota uski harkaton se, tumhe bhi waqt laga but shayad tumne bhi khud ko dhund liya (You had started your journey wanting to find Don, and it was hard to understand that Ved is Don. His antics broke your heart, you took your time but you eventually found yourself).

It was difficult to understand how and why you lingered on someone for 8 long years? But I realised you never really were stuck. You gracefully accepted the reality, enjoying your solitude, your bliss and journey.

You loved Don, you loved Ved too, but most importantly, you started loving yourself. The courage you showed by being there for Ved when you, yourself, were breaking and hurting on the inside. You are very resilient and courageous. Because maybe it’s not about him, maybe it’s about you. It’s loving that gives you hope.

Dear Ved

I am proud of you for figuring out and finding out what you want and who you are. It makes me happy that you confronted your family about your real passion. I was mad at you for hurting Tara along the way. I still am. I realise it’s a journey and you both accepted each other and chose to love one another and oneself. Toxic hai thhodi but tumhaari and uski love story hai.
