It’s been almost ten months now that we all suffered more or less during this pandemic. But the question that we need to ask is the amount of suffering is equal for both genders? The inequality in our daily life isn’t something alien to us. Starting from the harassment women face in public transport to inside the walls of MNCs.
Women are forced into kitchens and domestic work in many households while men have free rein to do what they want.
But today let’s talk about the condition of women inside their own houses during this pandemic. As per the NCW report, over 13,000 domestic violence cases were reported. Some illogical reasons for violence were- Because he lost a ludo game to her, because there was no salt in the food, because they refused to do household chores and many more.
Apart from urban areas the problems faced by rural girls and women were that they are forced into the kitchens all day while the men of the house had chilling time with friends, rarely leaving any time for women to get for themselves.
Now in urban areas, the most common inequality that girls are witnessing is that they have lost their freedom of movement, while the boys of the house can go out anytime and for any reason. The girls are constantly asked. In some households there are restrictions for girls operating mobiles, chatting, or talking on calls. While no such restrictions are generally seen in the case of boys.
These are some of the reasons that are making one gender more vulnerable.
