Opinion: Modi Resorts To Similar ‘Andolanjivi’ Jibes When He Is On The Backfoot

Modi Andolanjivi

May we ask the PM who is an Andolankari and what separates them from an Andolanjivi? Though Modi has blurred the lines between both, it seems utterly disqualified to speak without reasons or facts of it. I don’t understand why he picks up such sentences and statements in the Parliament.

Shouldn’t it be marked as being a polemic and less on purpose? How can the common and ordinary be blamed for organising and mobilising protests and movements which form the essence of their constitutional rights and democratic duties?

During the 2011 Anna Andolan, RSS volunteers had candidly cooperated with India Against Corruption for throwing over the UPA coalition drunk on power. None of the UPA leaders ever signed and singed any conspiracy theory, as has become the norm in the present-day NDA government.

The Nirbhaya gangrape attracted a lot of international criticism and condemnation from in and around the globe accusing the ruling UPA of compromising with the security and safety of women. Still, Manmohan Singh’s UPA government arranged for the medical facility and transportation of Nirbhaya to Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore, where the 29-year-old breathed her last breath despite the best available treatment.

Nevertheless, the UPA did accept the blame and constituted the Verma Committee to rectify present-day punitive laws against sexual harassment amidst the uproar. Did they say a word on those orchestrating the agitation and those actively involved? Efforts to direct the motives were never attributed to individual and organisations.

Modi can’t afford to see it as these Andolans are eroding his majesty’s popular legitimacy and leadership, lowering his political pride and prospects in the eyes of his voters, supporters and campaigners as he is a majority government. Thus, IT cells and Twitter trends are being rolled and rubbed for saving the grace of a government high on ideology and less on principles.

Rihanna’s tweet sparked #IndiaTogether to trend after celebrities came in support of India’s “sovereignty”.

Celebs like Kangana Ranaut, Sachin Tendulkar, Ajay Devgan, etc. are efficiently endorsing whatever they can in their capacities by missing on facts and picking on fiction with a pinch of rhetoric. They are aiding and assisting in decolonising nationalist sentiments and sensibilities as they know nobody else can take it better.

I don’t know how far it is supposed to go from here, but one thing’s sure, whenever PM Modi sees himself on the backfoot, he tries to portray and punctuate a reality handy and catchy for us to stomach. No matter if it were to involve a few rhetorics and depictions, we can accommodate it all with a huge heart as for our democratic outlook and orientation.

Modi ne aise hi thodi na 56-inch seene ki baat ki thi. Aakhir kucch toh kaaran raha hoga zaroor.
