Poem: I Will Dress As I Please, Not To Impress You!

Freedom

“Well, I’m dressing up for myself and not to impress you”

You think that I need your consent for everything I wear…

“Well, I’m dressing up for myself and not to impress you”.

You are always available and are in a rush to comment on my dressing.

“Well, I’m dressing up for myself and not to impress you”.

You are happy to swap my shorts to churidar (or saree) & compliment me for those behenji looks, but stroll your eyes over those fashionable people from the west, and think that I’m just dumb at fashion,

Where my fashion sense is far more than them.

“Well, I’m dressing up for myself and not to impress you”.

You think that I’m representing you by my dressing but baby I can be you never & you can never be me.

“Well, I’m dressing up for myself and not to impress you”.

You think that you are giving me enough freedom but think again because freedom is never given.

“Well, I’m dressing up for myself and not to impress you”.

You are always occupied with worrying about what people think about me but never think about what I feel.

“Well, I’m not living for others but for myself”.

And this life is mine, and you mistook it to be yours.
