The Reality Check The Pandemic Gave Me

The great 2020 finally ended and we all are in 2021 now. Everyone has different stories to tell about their experiences and I would like to share mine. 2020 had been a good year for me because I was about to get married by the end of February, so the first two months went into wedding planning and all that came with it. The major change started when I had to move to a different city around the time the coronavirus started spreading.

The first two months of 2020 began with my marriage and its planning.

The biggest challenges were that it was the first time in my life I was away from my parents for 5 long months, I had never lived with a guy because I don’t have a brother and now I had a husband, taking care of someone else, and landing into an alien city. I was also distraught about not being able to meet expectations, craving for “maa ke haath ka khaana (food made by my mother)”, living without TV, extreme cleaning, jobless, courier got stuck for 3 months, and I was not able to decorate my new house. I didn’t even have enough utensils in the kitchen.

2020 has made me more responsible and patient. I feel focused and energetic. I managed all my household chores alone, bought only essentials, and saved money. I cooked all three meals myself and those too several varieties. I did all those things which I never thought I can do. Realized that housewives did the toughest job compare to them physically or mentally. True life teaches you lessons in every aspect. Somewhere pandemics make us realize our priorities and what is least important in our lives.

Most importantly how can one manage life with limited resources and how dependent are we on others? Above all, to lead a happy life peace of mind is necessary. Always find happiness in small things because materialistic things will come and go. The only thing that stays with us is the love and support of our loved ones. Every problem has a solution and I feel this pandemic will also end soon and we will be back to normal.
