My Conversation With A Kargil War Survivor At A Hospital

My first article on the Internet. I am so full of thoughts and emotions in this moment that so can’t hold them.

Today is Holi. What is so special about this day that I couldn’t stop myself from writing? If I step outside on Holi, then I play heartily, and if I don’t, then I stay indoors, clean-chit. But this Holi, I’m at the hospital (Aaj Holi ka din hai. Har saal ki tarah is baar kya aisa hai jo main apne aap ko likhne se nhi rok payi Holi khelna mere liye aisa ki bahar aa gye toh   doob ke kheli or nhi aaye toh clean chit ho kar ghar ke andar hi lekin is baar main hospital k andar hu).

My dad is on dialysis. He is slightly ill but wants to recover soon. I hope he gets better soon. Every day, while coming back from my office, I visit him in the hospital and find new patients on the adjacent beds. But what happened today? The patient right opposite to my dad’s bed came here two days ago. I had been watching him for two days, but he was in so much pain that I couldn’t talk to him (“Mere Papa” wo dialysis’s per hai thode bimar hai lekin jaldi thik hona chahte hai toh bus wo thik ho jayenge. Roj raat office ke baad unse milne aati hu unke paas ke bed per patient change hote rehte hai.. So aaj kya hua ?? Aaj wo hua jo hum sabko dekhna chahiye, Mere papa ke saamne hi ek or patient aaye hai do din pehle, Do din se dekh  toh rhi thi lekin wo itne pain me the toh puchne ki Himmat nhi juta payi).

Today, I mustered the courage and finally asked him (Aaj himmat juta li or puch hi liya).

For us, the Indian army is all about a soldier, a government job, a salary, staying from from our loved ones, wearing our lives on our sleeve for strangers. But there’s more. There is so much more the the life in the Army but words are falling short and I will need more time to express more (Indian Army- Ek Fauzi, Sarkari Naukri (Hum sab ki nazron me), Thodi si tankhwah, Apno ke pyaar se dur or Ajnabiyon ke liye apni jaan hatheli per rakh kar chalne wala.. Abhi bhi kuch kam lag rha hai or bhi bahut kuch hai jo shabdo me byan karne me mujhe waqt lag jayega).

With his one leg lost, tears in his eyes and a laughter on his face, he was narrating me his story at the Kargil war. He said four of them had just log a leg, but there were six soldiers who lost their lives. He hid behind to wipe off his tears later. He is a human being after all (Ek paanv (Leg) gawan kar aankho me thodi nami lekar haste huye mujhe apni Kargil ki kahani byan kar rha hai ki hum 4 logo ne taang hi toh khoyi per unke 6 maar  giraye. (Baad me chupke se apne aansu poch rhe the) Aakhir hai toh Insaan hi na).

Itni si toh baat hai.. ?
