Legislators Discuss Compensation For Snake Bites In Bihar Assembly

The two contrary Greek adages “Know Thyself” and “Nothing in Excess” imply are nothing but the glorification of ingrained human virtues mentioned in the ancient idea of perfection called paideia. It was designed to mould ideal human beings possessing levelled, elegant and logical qualities. Do our elected leaders have these very behavioural aspects?

When elections come, politicians talk continuously about development works. They appear to forget their promises after getting elected. They start debating on other points like compensation, arrest and conversational contrasts.

That was a scene that emerged during the question hour in the Bihar assembly recently. Neeraj Kumar Singh, alias Bablu, the minister concerned, could not satisfy the BJP legislator Pawan Jaiswal over the provision of compensation for snake bite.

Ultimately it was cleared after a lengthy discussion that there was a condition for claiming a compensatory amount. The victim’s family should show a post-mortem report defining death that occurred due to a snake bite. A sum of ₹5 lacs is provided as compensation, as was told in the legislative assembly. There was also a provision of a non-bailable arrest warrant against killing a snake under the defined rule.
