Opinion: “We Lost Our Self-Reliance By Ignoring The Factor Of Unity”

unity india

When India established its sovereignty on the midnight of August 15, 1947, surpassing the dark age of the British colony, it became self-reliant or Atmanirbhar. We are barking for that again, ignoring the factor behind it — admittedly, that’s unity in diversity. Now, we have a larger diversity but less unity. That is where we lost our self-reliance.

India is the most amazing country with various religions, different cultures and languages. All these make unique products of the world; cultural and religious brotherhood. It’s been the tradition of India for centuries. India becomes ideal for the whole world in the arena of traditional and cultural amalgamation. It’s the power the British colony was frightened of. It’s the power that empowers India to make an adventure of any journey.

We, students, used to learn about the Indian classical story of a father and his sons. The father taught his sons the power of unity with an example of woods in a bundle. Thus, our classic lessons make us aware of how unity works. Paradoxically, the story informs about the weakness of a separated family. We Indians should be aware of that.

Our India becomes the only nation in the world to be proud of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Tipu Sultan consecutively. We feel proud of both Mahatma Gandhi and Maulana Azad. We Indians spread the poetic values of Tagore and Nazrul too. In all examples, we have a set of pairs to say. That stimulates the sovereignty of India and makes it self sufficient.

The latest stance of self-sufficiency of India can be seen in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Being the second most populated country, India remains still on this battleground. India even became one of the vaccine exporting countries.

Earlier, India informed the whole world that we could survive without China and surpass their products by banning their popular mobile applications. It was a stronger step against China than a face to face fight. It was also a clear indication of Indian ascendancy into the global market.

Our country will survive till the Ganga Yamuna flows, blowing breeze to all. It’s the duty of us all to pick up strains that pollute the freshness of this Ganga-Yamuna and throw it out.
