I Was An Ardent Modi Follower, But Now My Political Preferences Have Changed

I’ve been an ardent follower of Narendra Modi and the NDA Government from 2014 to 2019. Although, as of today, I can’t see a replacement for Narendra Modi yet, my political preferences have now become neutral.

Why Did I Like The Narendra Modi-Led Government Of 2014-2019?

“A team is only as good as its captain. A captain is only as good as its team,” These words of Gautam Gambhir are still ringing in my ears.

Narendra Modi, alone, couldn’t have done anything substantial to change or transform India and make it the global superpower.

From 2014-2019, Narendra Modi was well-supported by a team of supremely talented and experienced ministers:

  1. Arun Jaitley: Finance Ministry
  2. Rajnath Singh: Home Ministry
  3. Manohar Parrikar: Defense Ministry
  4. Sushma Swaraj: Foreign Ministry
  5. Suresh Prabhu/ Piyush Goyal: Ministry of Railways
  6. Nitin Gadkari: Ministry of Transport

Even when Narendra Modi rallied for BJP in respective state elections, most of these other ministers kept focusing on their ministries instead of diverting their entire focus on the state elections.

Because of a well-experienced and supportive team, Narendra Modi could take fierce decisions and bowl aggressively at the opposition batsmen.

These personalities were as much outspoken outside the Parliament as they were inside the Parliament, because of which, Modi could make more public policies and work towards the development of India, internally & internationally.

Remember, how successful MS Dhoni was in the tests until the retirement of Sourav Ganguly, Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, and VVS Laxman. He even became the most successful test captain of India.

Post-2019 Scenario

Post-2019, Narendra Modi-led Government has become Narendra Modi-focused Government.

Amit Shah has probably forgotten that he is the home minister first, a BJP-member afterwards.

Nirmala Sitharaman is the Rahul Gandhi of BJP; she is trying hard to excel in a field that she knows nothing about. Suresh Prabhu and Piyush Goyal, two of the wisest Indian politicians right now, are disappearing from the picture.

The good work done in the NDA-1 phase is being ruined in the second phase. India’s diplomatic relations with top countries are again in deep waters over the current farmer protests and continuous suppressing of the right to speech.

Nothing to take away from Modi’s selflessness and patriotic approach, the current Government needs more skilful ministers who can do what they are best at, so Narendra Modi can do what he is best at.

For instance, Nitin Gadkari is still skillfully leading his ministry because of which the road infrastructure development has progressed aggressively over the last 7 years.

Yes, no one could have avoided the sudden demise of the experienced ministers in the BJP party. But once the party introspects, there are a lot of experienced politicians who can serve the country under Modi’s leadership.

Remember, a captain is only as good as his team.
