Round-Up: SDG News In The First Week Of March

We at Be a Bridge for Change realize that a large number of changemakers work in areas related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Be it NGOs, academicians, government officials, or social entrepreneurs, it becomes very difficult to keep an account of the latest developments while at the same giving one’s hundred percent to the specific cause undertaken.

Program to provide vaccination for children and pregnant women for several diseases has begun.

Intensified Mission  launched

  • Aims to provide timely immunization to children and pregnant women
  • It is a sequel to  which was launched earlier
  • Vaccination against 12 vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) is covered under the mission

The special focus of this current re-energized mission is to provide vaccination against all 12 VPDs to pregnant women and children who missed their vaccine doses during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

New Bird flu in Russia

  • WHO alerts for H5N8 avian flu found in Russia
  • No human to human transmission reported so far
  • However serious impacts on food-producing birds may be seen

Telangana achieves  to schools

  • A targeted attempt to provide tap water connection to Schools, Anganwadi Centres, and Ashramshalas was carried out
  • The state achieved this during a 100-day special campaign of the ministry of Jal Shakti under the Jal Jeevan Mission
  • Telangana was the first state to provide tap water connections to all households
  • Jal Jeevan Mission aims to provide 55 lpcd water through piped water supply to all rural households by 2024
  • Special attention to tap water connection in primary education institutions is also an effort towards improving education and literacy rates

Checking One’s Carbon Footprint Now A Matter Of A Few Taps And Swipes

  • The Government of UT of Chandigarh became the first to launch an app dedicated to measuring the carbon footprint of an individual
  • The users of the app named Carbon Watch will be asked about their; water, energy, and transport usages along with their waste generation
  • The app also gives suggestions and recommends lifestyle changes to reduce the carbon footprint

Telangana has achieved 100% tap water connections in schools.
