The Mexico Wall Is Losing Merit Since President Biden’s Election

If the Mexican boundary wall was being raised by the former President of the USA to restrict immigrants from the other side, then the present President feels differently about it. First of all, President Joe Biden has halted further construction of the wall. The Mexico-United States barrier (Spanish: Barrera México-Estados Unidos), also known as the border wall, is a series of vertical barriers along the Mexico-United States border intended to reduce illegal immigration to the United States from Mexico.

The construction work of the wall, which is supposed to be completed in April this year, was halted for 60 days. It has been underlined by many that the wall will accomplish little to curb immigrants from reaching the American land. Anyone from either side of the wall can walk around it, owing to the unfinished work, and cross the border.

The border wall construction has also been heavily criticised for the impending land erosion and risk of landslides in the area. A quarter-mile portion of the wall amidst Arizona’s Huachuca mountains has also been discerned as a substantial danger. According to the Trump government, the project completed about 452 miles of the border wall under them from 2017 till January 2021.

However, it must be noted that most of this construction comprised an elevation of the already-standing barriers along the border. According to a news report, the previous Trump administration had built only 80 miles of the new wall. It must not be negated that the border wall was a symbolic example of Donald Trump’s hardline position on immigration.
