Trigger warning: Mentions of rape
The Supreme Court asked the rape accused, “Will you marry her?”
Like every time a girl gets raped, she must get married to the person who raped her in order to “save herself and her honour.” Is she really safe?
What will the court say at the instance of marital rape? “Can you remarry her?”
And what will the court do of people who are habitual offenders? Like… would it ask them to become the ‘male Paanchali’? What if the accused is his father, brother or uncle or cousin? Marry that person too! I am just unable to figure out that why we don’t understand that ‘rape is rape’ and marrying the victim to the accused is NOT a solution to the issue. It instead victimises the girl more terribly!
The society needs to understand that instead of giving birth to a victim, it is important to have a survivor!
