Quick Bytes: Chowkidar Saab, Save Lives First, Not Your Image

Modi

The Hindutva-based pseudo-Nationalist Narendra Modi government has miserably failed to contain the deadly Covid and respond to the inevitable, but a disastrous second wave of the virus, despite having sufficient time & resources to prepare. They focused solely on recent state election campaigns & now people are dying without oxygen, hospital beds & anti-viral drugs. It’s for the first time post-independence, a govt. is forcing citizens to pay for vaccination & it’s inhumane, discriminatory & haphazard.

Instead of focussing on the task at hand, the Modi government has been busy maintaining its image and silencing dissenters.

The people losing their loved ones to Covid will criticize the govt. in power with facts & figures. Accountability is quintessential in a democracy, especially at this distressing time of overwhelmed crematoriums and graveyards, & the decision of the Modi regime to request Twitter to remove tweets exposes their fear of truth & accountability. It’s unacceptable, highly condemnable & far too unbecoming a Nation of hard-earned democratic status.

Social Media is a platform where people seek emergency help, coordinate assistance & support each other. Many individuals & organizations, in their private capacity, are doing exemplary work to bear a system that has completely collapsed & failed due to the agony, callousness & grave incompetence of the government, though they are constantly backed by the systematically captured institutions & disgusting ‘godi’ media.

Without fixing transparency and accountability, we can’t get the system back to track & the myopic political consideration of the ruling party must not kill the people anymore. Therefore, by succumbing to the cowardly pressure of the government, Twitter has set a very dangerous precedent.

The citizenry, opposition parties & the global community must together & stronger resist this attack against humanitarian values & exert pressure upon the Modi govt. to ensure oxygen, hospital beds, treatment & free cost vaccination for each & every person, firstly, before spending Rs. 20,000 Crore on the Central Vista Capital Beautification Project & Rs. 3600 Crore on publicity.
