On BJP Foundation Day, Here Is What The Party Represents Today

Mithun joins BJP

Why has battling and braving every electoral contest become so paramount for PM Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)? I remember how the PM reacted to the allegations against the BJP turning into an election machine on the foundation day of the party. Modi aroused the sentiments of the cadres by taking a jibe at the opponents and critics of the right-wing BJP, making a place in the hearts and minds of the people.

He claimed to represent the ethics and ethos of plurality and diversity by defending the cultural past of India — something that the party claims has been thoroughly overlooked by previous political regimes. However, the PM missed a fine point. Apart from conquering elections, it is equally necessary to live upto the realities, aspirations and expectations of the constituencies by being accountable for your duties as people’s representative and leader.

I am to understand that the government seems to be shunning and shying away from attempting to answer tough questions on the state of India’s economy, education, employment, environment etc. in Covid times. I find it ironical for the BJP to pick up the faults of their opponents, and raising and revising it to reap political profits out of it.

I don’t know if there will be any end to this political game, given how the rules and legislations guiding Covid-appropriate behaviour is being routinely flouted by the cheer choirs of the BJP. The Election Commission seems to have pushed itself to the oblivion that makes noise only when the mistake seems to have been committed by the other side. In West Bengal, this has become an everyday scare, but to nobody’s avail. Why will anybody bother you when they are outrightly familiar with the views and verdicts of the top ranked constitutional bodies?
