Quick Byte: Is Being A Teenager In The 21st Century Easy?

Time and again, we face competition: in academics, sports, fashion, and the arts. Who defines the limits of this competition? No one. This is the turning point when instead of the motivation to strive, the temperament to defeat each other takes over. Students are filled with anxiety, stress, and tension most of the time. Instead of looking at a life full of opportunities, they tend to view it as full of struggle. Not only do they have to make their futures, keep up with their parents’ expectations, but also keep up with their peers and the modern-day life. Not only do they have to learn new skills, educate themselves, and be the best versions of themselves, but they also have to go through depression, anguish, jealousy, and enormous amounts of competition.

Being able to comply is an achievement in itself. I may digress by pointing at the generation gap, which indeed exists. To convince your society and face them every single day is hard, very hard indeed. Today’s youth comprise of astute, motivated, and industrious people; they want to raise their voice by highlighting important matters such as sexism and racism. However, being raised in India- which is still emerging out of thousands of years of prejudice- being able to articulate your views and make a difference takes a lot of courage. The youth need to be heard and understood.
