Even though we are in the 21st century why do we find that most of the world leaders are men? Stats show that only 7% of the total world leaders are women, why is it so? Maybe because we are accustomed to male dominance in the Parliament or we are under the impression that when it comes to sensitive fields like running a nation, women should rather remain submissive.
Perhaps the reason behind this unequal proportion is because we, as a nation are not ready to be ruled by a woman. Or rather, say it will hurt our ego because, according to our male chauvinist society- women are not so good at decision making. They are expected to make decisions like a male leader in case they are in charge, the logic of the world that “Men must be doing something right to play a major role in the politics” is totally abysmal.
The low ratio of women leaders is not due to the lack of competent women but because of the lack of hurdles for our incompetent male leaders. There are also arguments that politics encourage women and are all for women empowerment and there are reservations for female representatives, but the question here is, why can’t a woman represent our nation? Why can’t there be more women leaders at the state and national level, this just shows the hypocrisy of our political system.
Women can ace every task from running a house to ruling a nation, all we need is a judgement-free society that is ready to accept female leaders. Even if we look at our history Jhansi Lakshmi bai who is known to be the epitome of bravery and is one of the best Kakatiya emperors is a woman. The irony of our society is we can provide women with equal job opportunities in all the fields except to actually elect women who can rebuild our society with different fields for opportunities.
Besides all these facts, I feel that electing a female representative will finally put an end to the long-running rape and sexual assault cases in our country because who can understand what every woman goes through rather than a woman herself!
With all current stats, it’s not just a matter of sympathy to give opportunities to women but we can clearly see that the nations with women leaders are dealing way better with Covid Pandemic, maybe it’s high time we stop questioning the incompetence of women in decision making or accuse them of being emotional fools and we start questioning our beliefs as a society as to why our nation is lagging behind, even though it is being ruled by extremely ‘capable’ and ‘intellectual’ men.
Perhaps it is actually time that we elect someone who is diligent rather than based on their gender.
