Why Is The Summer And Winter Olympics Facing Criticism?

The Summer Olympics and the Winter Olympics remain controversial due to different reasons. the Tokyo Olympics is still under watchful scanning eyes owing to the majority of the Japanese not favoring its start amid the coronavirus. The Beijing Olympics gets agitated comments for human rights issues in China. U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi demanded a U.S. diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, denouncing China for human rights abuses and saying global leaders who attend would lose their moral authority.

Many Japanese citizens are against the Olympics taking place due to the health concerns of a major public event in the pandemic.

U.S. lawmakers have been increasingly vocal about an Olympic boycott or venue change. They have also lashed out at American corporations, opposing their silence about what the State Department has deemed a genocide of Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities in China.

There are mixed views on its holding at different venues. Once already extended for another more precise date, extensions of the summer Olympics now appear quite hard for the organizers who do not want to stretch it any further. Of course, the situations are no favorable amid the proliferation of the virus. Yet the Japanese see something profitable in its organizing. It is good for the revival of its economy, thereby giving the impression that the Tokyo Olympics Games have been taken as a source of earnings.

Does it not mar the basic spirit of Othe Olympics? It is an event for showing excellence in the field of sports played all around continents. How strange does it look that if 80% of the poll respondents in Japan are not happily supporting the start of the Tokyo Olympics, the determined organizers are bent upon holding it despite all odds? What is being inferred is that stalling the latest episode of the summer Olympics would mean losing the money used in the construction of the roads and the new stadiums. The Japanese government aims to improve its overall economy through these pricy games.

If the games are not organized due to fear of corona’s fourth wave in Japan, the cost of holding the games will jump by 22% to around $15.4 billion by some expertly calculated measures. Will the organizers be able to hopefully subdue the anti-game sentiments in Japan? The IOC and IPC continue to make their full-fledged backing of the games rolling forward quickly, amid the murmurs of cancellation. However, this can not be predicted before the completion of weeks that are day by day approaching near.

Time will tell how effective this procedure will eventually be prevailing there. Notwithstanding, it is a strong step in the right direction to assure the continuation of the biggest games. While organizers are going to great lengths to try to make it happen like the traditional event, it will certainly not present just a similar view as the previous Olympics played out its distinctive way. Olympics earlier were glamour and athletics, but the exhibitions might be pretty low in this pandemic version. The Olympics will probably go forward with relatively simple sporting events given the health angle.
