The Necessity Of Patience In Overcoming Your Struggles

A quality which I would say the present generation or Gen Z lacks in today’s day and age is patience. We’re all frantically always wanting to get what we want instantly, whether it be our dream job, romantic partner or anything else that we desire most. This generation wants it right away.

As I’m growing up, I am learning to be patient, my brother on the spectrum being my teacher in this regard. After all, what is patience? Patience, as per definition, is the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, problems or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious. According to an Assembled General Belief, patience is a good-natured tolerance of delay or incompetence.

Everyone is established and granted access to it, but not everyone accesses it. When we talk about patience, what comes to most people’s mind is suffering and waiting, and we don’t like to wait. Use patience to cope with stressful and upsetting situations and you will experience less depression and negative feelings, according to UC Davis psychology professor Robert Emmons.

As teenagers, we all want instant gratification, which is part of being a teen. However, as we progress into young adults, we can no longer be impulsive in our decisions or reactions. I believe this is one skill that we all must inculcate as part of our day-to-day life and not just in totality.

Note, the moment you wake up, what do you do? Check your phone, right? We immediately expose our eyes to the digital world without realising its harm. I’m also a culprit to that. However, I’m working on that and so should you. One way of testing your patience level would be when your phone buzzes, don’t check it right away, complete what task you are doing and then reply to the concerned person.

Similarly, even in terms of our dreams and aspirations, those too require patience. That confidence in yourself that you can reach or fulfil your goal and the ability to be calm when you fail. Both these qualities are required that shows your patience levels.

To conclude, acquiring patience as a quality in you is a continuous battle of obstacles. UC Davis psychology professor Robert Emmons suggests using patience to cope with stressful and upsetting situations to experience less depression and negative feelings. As per a study, having more patience can calm your mind and make you “feel more gratitude, more connection to mankind and the universe, and a greater sense of abundance”.

If your business is getting you anxious, the key to feeling good may be to wait until the situation passes. Even in the current circumstances in this pandemic, patience is a major life lesson learnt. Nobody knows how and when it’ll all end, but one thing that’ll keep us calm and contended is patience.
