Taking Offence (How it all started)

Warning: If you are a person who never gets offended by anything, this post is for you.

If you are a person who always gets offended by everything, this post is DEFINITELY for you.

It’s a true story (NOT!) from the Panchtantra. Read on…

It was some time in some past, present or future.

God was holding a sack full of blocks made of different things- values, objects, events. All the animals, plants, other organisms were picking out random different things for themselves. Elephants received long noses, roses found thorns, dolphins had the brains (in case, you did not know), cats stopped giving a damn after they got indifference.

As humans were evolving rapidly and were probably God’s favorites (so they claimed for ages), they were given the privilege of picking up one block for themselves per century. Some centuries got the Plague, some had the Renaissance, the most unfortunate ones received two blocks stuck to each other marked “World War”!

It was now the turn of the 21st century man. When he was about to pick up a block, God said, “You are so lucky, my child. You have all the knowledge in the world at your fingertips. You have the potential of removing all the disease in the world. If you try, you can communicate with other worlds. You must have realized by now that you are beyond religion, caste, race, gender and disability. You have managed to avoid death and have progressed so much. Why do you nee….”

God could not even finish his sentence. The man said, “God, how can you even say that? You believe I have everything, don’t you? Yes, I have brightness and light. Yes, I have the privilege. Yes, I run the world. But you should still be fair. I trust you, but I won’t follow your rules, and you can’t stop me from “TAKING” a block for myself.”

So, with an air of arrogance, he picked up a block and walked away. God smiled.

In bold letters, it read “OFFENCE”.
