Quick Bytes: What’s Wrong With Indian Parenting?

Paakhi, a small-town girl, lives in a middle-class family. Throughout her academics, she has been brilliant and got excellent marks in her 12th boards in the commerce stream. Her parents were thrilled as they had plans for her future path, but she wasn’t.

You see, the reason is Paakhi wished to pursue a career in fashion and designing. She wanted to explore the life of designing professional attires and exploring how it all works. But Paakhi’s parents are conservative and restrictive. They take everything related to Paakhi in an exaggerated way.

As a result, they did not allow Paakhi to pursue her dream by forcing her to pursue B.Com to become CA in future. The continuous dismissal of her dreams by her parents confused her and made her depressed and tired. So she fled from her home. It has been over a month, and nobody knows about her whereabouts, not even her parents.

Paakhi has taken a drastic step, but she wouldn’t have taken this step if her parents had been supportive of her dreams and career path! Why do parents not understand that we have our own wishes, opinions, and social lives? Why do they overpower us with their orthodox principles and underrate our existence? As the next generation, we have many new things to explore, try, and learn if they work for us.

In this quick, complex and dirty world, one needs to explore new career paths, try them out, and test if they work. If they don’t, then hunt for the new one until you become a pro. One needs to be creative in learning new skills, communications, presence(mental and physical), and risk-taking.

Many remarkable people have built up new employment opportunities, such as online game-live streaming, freelancing, social media marketing, designing, movie explanations, and many more in these ten years. Parents need to understand this because this is the need of the next generation. They can make their own decisions, build financial plans, and contribute to society in a new way. It’s okay to protect your child from a harsh, bitter world, but it’s not okay to contain them like a “yolk enclosed within egg whites and protected by white shell”. My dear friend, you are ready to be fried on a pan. So act up!
