Quick Byte: Why Are Films With Female Lead Called Female-Oriented?

I am Spandana. I have already written two article on Youth Ki Awaaz. If you want, you can go through them here.

I want to start by asking: why do movies show male characters as heroic and powerful characters even in the 21st century? We can notice that in Bollywood, Tollywood and many more woods ?, the hero is depicted as a superior character in the movie, while the heroine or actress are secondary. We wait for the actor to come and change their fate. Only in some movies, we see actresses as powerful characters, but in every other movie, the actor is the powerful one. But why?

Movies with female leads are called female-oriented films, but we don’t call movies with male leads as male-oriented films. Why can’t we normalised both kind of films?

Movies with female leads are called female-oriented films, but we don’t call movies with male leads as male-oriented films.

Even in the introduction of a film, we see the male actor entering the screen first. Why is it like that? Why we are not able to change that? Why don’t directors think about it? And even the public accepts this, why?

This trend will also impact the public’s mind, and the public will also develop this bias that actresses should depend on actors. If someone questions these trends, they are called mad. Seriously!

I don’t know if actresses feel these things or not. But in conclusion, we must and will change this trend. It’s time we get equality in every sector of our lives.
