18-Y-O Muslim Vegetable Seller In UP Beaten To Death By Police For Flouting Lockdown Norms

The incident took place in Bhatpuri locality in Bangarmau area when the boy was selling vegetable outside his house.

An 18-year-old boy died after being beaten up by the police for violating lockdown norms in Bangarmau Kotwali in Unnao. The incident took place on the afternoon of May 21, 2021, when Faisal was selling vegetables on a hand cart outside his house near a sabzi mandi. All of a sudden, a police constable and home guard came to Faisal; other shopkeepers ran away after seeing the police, by the two men grabbed Faisal and started beating him without asking any questions. While hitting Faisal with their batons, the two sat on their bike and took him to Kotwali.

“After my brother got unconscious, he was rushed to the hospital, where the doctors told us that his condition is critical. He asked us to refer him [to another doctor], but he died there,’’ said Faisal’s brother.

Later, agitated over the incident, the crowd took to the streets and blocked the road on which the incident had occurred, demanding suspension of the two policemen involved and government jobs to the deceased’s family. Following the protests by Faisal’s family and the locals, a murder case has been registered against police constables Vijay Chaudhary and Seemant, and home guard Satyaprakash.

Sources also said that Satyaprakash has been dismissed from the service while constables Chaudhary and Seemant have been suspended by higher officials.

However, the Unnao police told the reporters that Faisal prima facie died of heart attack, was picked for curfew violation.
