Opinion: “A Real Woman Is She Who Neither Forgets Her Culture, Nor Gives Up Her Rights.”

“A real woman is she who neither forgets her culture, nor gives up her rights.”

Feminism is always on the list of trending topics for a while now. Feminism in India has always seen a different scenario. Our country holds rich and undoubtedly meaningful traditions and customs. Therefore, the topic of feminism often conflicts with the age old traditional ethics.

A part of modern feminism always holds contradictory sense to the customs of India. When some among the age old traditions actually are superstitious, the others have been scientifically proven to be beneficial to the normal human lifestyle. The country has distinct customs in various corners of it, resulting in rich ethnicity. The vivid customs had always been a factor of wonder and a subject involving cultural research. In addition, the customs had a phase of patriarchy, similar or even slightly more brutal than in the other parts of the world. Abolishing sati and similar customs seems to have ignited the initial phase of feminism in India.

Over the time, as things changed, feminism too took a new face. Education started becoming the basic need of an independent life, and so did it lay the foundation of discovering various opportunities for self development, or perhaps the development of the individual identity.

On the quest towards a more powerful and independent identity, it is important that we do not modernize ourselves to a level that we forget our actual, precious, and highly privileged cultural identity. Feminism is the voice of those women who are deprived of opportunities; it should not include the shouts of anyone who takes advantage of being a woman in the wrong sense. Feminism should be the equality that give equal opportunities to every gender; it should not be the excuse for being lazy.

A woman is often compared to a motherly figure. A mother is someone who seemingly does everything. Her arms reach out to comfort everyone in the family. Her mind works extraordinarily as a talented employee, to be more precise she is simply the best multi-talented form of life. Before any woman considers feminism as an excuse, considers it a chance to fake herself, or to pass on false arguments, I would like them to rethink. Where there is effort, there is victory, and victory is not restricted to any gender. There are no limits to victory if it is true.

Real feminism is the competition of being the best in what you like through the right means, being the warrior of truth irrespective of gender, and never being opportunistic with the mercy of society. One false accusation in the name of feminism disturbs the real meaning of the word, making it worthless. Let us wake the real feminism and break the barriers of gender to be more successful, to be a real woman!
