So today, I want to share a real-life experience with you all. I call it “how the pressure of education becomes a common thing around students” because that is what I want to share.
We, the school students, understand this situation. Firstly, I want to state it first that I am not blaming someone; I am just sharing my perspective, my opinion, my experience, so please don’t take it wrongly.
Our society tells us, “Without studying, you can’t succeed”, but is it? I believe and will always think the studies are a major part of our life; knowledge is important but not more than someone’s dreams. Is it?
In almost every Indians School, we are told that you can be something worthwhile in the future only if you study. Otherwise, you will be a loser for your rest of the life. From primary school, we were told that class 10 boards examinations are very important, it is our first board in our lives, and we have to study hard to score more, the score of 10th boards will be counted in future.
If someone failed in one exam of any class, we used to believe he/she is a failure for their whole life. Are grades or marks really that important? Most of the Indian parents wish to see their children become either a doctor or an engineer. And if that child has any other dreams, then most parents force them to drop their goal and do as per their (parent’s) wish. Why?
Is a dream other than becoming a doctor or engineer not good or successful? Only a doctoral and engineering degree is successful and worthwhile in life? No, not at all. Every field has there own benefits and success if you concentrate on your dream only then I am sure you will be successful.
If studies are that important, then how come Sachin Tendulkar, known as the god of cricket? I am sure he didn’t get this title by only studying. And like this, there are many more examples. One of my friends is good at art subject, but his parents want him to be an engineer, and for this, he has to choose science.
Everyone is not good in science (someone may be good at arts and commerce or sports, if everyone become a doctor or engineer then who will run a country, who will form a company and who will do jobs like CEOs, CFOs, and many others), and as always in the final year of high school, his marks deteriorate so much that for his undergraduate degree he was not able to cope up with.
By paying for rechecking, he got some marks more to cope with the course and got admission, but he got depressed with the marks and the thought that he will be able to fulfil the dreams of his or his parents. His parents and for him took almost a half of year to recover from those negative thoughts and depression. At last, his parents accept his dream and allow him to fulfil his dreams.
So I want to ask what happen by forcing him. Did they get what they want? No, but the respect or trust the child once had for his parents are now somehow decreased maybe a little bit but did. Is this what parents want from their children? No right, then why do something that hurts someone and yourself also, let your child be what he/she wants to, by this the child will also be happy and the parents will also because the parents believe if they saw their children happy, then they will also be happy. Now many parents do this by thinking that what will society will say. What will happen if some people say something?
Those who will say something against today will be the people who will praise you first when you get success. People in this society are very much judging; God gave them a mouth to speak, then god gave all of us two ears, one for listening and the other one for throwing those hurtful and worthless words out and keep the supportive and good words to us, do that. Firstly the pressure we got from our school then this type of problems we face gave us lots of a hard time to deal with it. It makes a miserable situation for us mentally.
Many students die by suicide, and almost every student have reasons behind this decision that are similar to this. At last, I will say- Let your child be what they want, don’t force them. Everyone has their dreams, and if one concentrate fully on their dreams, then he/she will be undoubtedly successful, and no one can stop that person from achieving their particular goals. Don’t be trap in others dream, be in your dreams.
