What to say when someone’s bursting firecrackers

who do firecrackers effect anyway?

let’s make a list, shall we? start with the more obvious one and move down to the less likely ones.

  1. plant and animal life- Crackers startle animals and are sometimes wrapped around them as a joke. Crackers destroy plants and truly all kinds of flora and fauna in any area due to the poisonous chemicals they produce.
  2. newborn babies- Children born around Diwali are more likely to suffer from chronic respiratory disease than those children born at any other time of the year. Noise pollution is detrimental to the physical and mental health of the baby.
  3. the elderly and those with respiratory disorders-  Loud noises trigger anxiety attacks in some and the chemicals and smoke released by the crackers affect those who already have respiratory issues humans- absolutely healthy normal humans, who don’t wish to watch the environment and their loved one suffers.
  4. neurodivergent people- Those who are sound sensitive may get extensively triggered due to the incessant bursting of crackers.
  5. Lastly, but most importantly, the innocent little children making these crackers in terrible conditions, exposed to deadly chemicals and suffering from chronic diseases and severe burns.

And what the hell started all of this?

It has absolutely no ancient roots, no past it was just a gimmick brought from Britain to India. It holds absolutely no religious meaning.

” It causes 2% pollution, all this pollution is from stubble burning”

“We don’t say anything on your festivals and you know what you all do”

“Stop interfering in our traditions”

sigh! How many times have you heard these. If I had a nickel for every time someone said that to me, I’d probably be able to bribe them into not bursting the crackers. Here’s my monologue I start every time someone bursts a cracker.

Let’s assume only 15 percent of the country actively campaigns for no crackers But let’s talk about all the organisms that are indirectly against it. Every single plant and animal life, that’s not enough? what about the elderly, people with respiratory issues, neurodivergent people who are sound sensitive newborn children, it’s not only bad for their chest and lungs but also the noise startles them. Lastly, What about the children who work at these factories and suffer from burns and deadly diseases, surely, a few moments of fun isn’t worth harming so many people.
