Are You Aware That We Are Nearing A Climate Crisis?

“Animals and Plants all wanting to captivate the human’s eyes

Endangered they cried as they sat watching themselves die

Nature howled what did you do to my beloved animals and tress

Pollution, global warming wasn’t supposed to spree

You silly man, you ought to die!

Came the floods crashing down, wanting to wipe out the humans and its foul

The earth cried and cried and cried to stop this insanity which didn’t seem to hide!”

Mother Earth nurtures us every day making great sacrifices. We, homosapiens benefit from a fabulous 4 billion year legacy bequeathed by the earth. We’re only 200 thousand years old but we’ve changed the earth. We’re destroying the cycle of life that was given to us. The fragile harmony amongst the piece of the earth has been shattered away.

We’ve forgotten that no species on this earth is futile, everything balances out here! In this menace, those who did nothing also face the brunt of climate change; for our ecosystem knows no boundary and no border and the repercussions are felt on the whole of the earth.

Some examples of these repercussions are the melting of glacial lakes like the Hindu Kush Region, which is the world’s third polespread over 8 countries in South Asia and home to 10 major river basins.

In the past few years, the climate has taken a central stage in migration discussions since future climate change is expected to lead to mass migration (climate refugee) as sea levels rise and extreme events such as floods, droughts and hurricanes become more frequent.

A serious threat to food security, Coral bleaching, Extreme events like extreme heatwaves in Europe and extreme cold waves in North America. It is the first time in the world that one in three Deaths are reported globally are heat-related. Resource crunch due to climate change has also raised conflict concerns and more and more possible epidemics or even pandemics.

Key Steps Taken by the Indian government

  1. India is one of the few countries on its way to meet its Nationally Determined Commitments stated in the Paris Agreement in 2015.
  2. India along with France set up the International Solar Alliance (ISA). 80 countries have signed its framework agreement.
  3. Establishment of the International Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), an international organization in the making with over 30 countries. This coalition will work towards a shared goal of establishing infrastructure which is resilient to pressures of climate change and environmental disasters.
  4. India and Sweden along with other partners will be launching the “Industry Transition Group.” The group will develop low-carbon pathways with the aim of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 in hard-to-abate industries such as steel and cement.
  5. India is expanding its bio-fuel mixing program to reduce the share of crude oil used in India.

        Way Forward

Climate change is a global issue but it can be dealt with a few changes like working towards renewable energy, urban forestry and so much more.

Covid has given us an opportunity to build forward better to greener. Shifting to Alternatives, generating awareness of these roles and turning them into action will lead to win-win results and increased sustainability and integrity for both human and ecological systems
