Poem: Just For Once, My Beloved

When you see yourself
You see scars and imperfections!
Just for once, my beloved
hear me as I share,
what I see, when I see you.

I see your lurching gait,
and I’ll pick you out in any crowd
I see your curly hair,
and my fingers rush
to tousle them over.

I see your lovely almond eyes,
witty and devious all at once
I see your lines and scars
And run my fingers over them
I close my eyes.
there they are in my mind’s eye
Ingrained for eternity.

I feel your soft skin
Against your hard sinews
I feel the small imperfections
As I run my hands over you
Etching them to my memory

Just for once, my beloved
Hear me, as I share
What I see, when I see you
All you see are your flaws
All I see and feel,
is your beauty,
even with my eyes closed

Just for once, my beloved
Believe me when I say
Your “flaws” make you to me
Real and tangible
Your “flaws” make you to me
Unique in every single way.

Just for once, my beloved
Believe me when I say that
You are mine!
You are perfection!
