AID FROM 2011 TO 2013

LIBYA INTERNAL CONFLICT 2011

In March 2011, internal conflict gave rise to civil war in Libya. Migrant workers were escaping the war into neighbouring Tunisia.       Khlasa aid  teams provided humanitarian aid on the Tunisian/Libyan border.

Khalsa Aid delivered 4 truckloads of water, with each truck delivering 25,000 bottles. Khalsa aid team collaborated with World Food Programme helping in the delivery of baby milk powder.

KENYA FAMINE  2011

Somalia civil war resulted in one of the biggest refugee camps in the world (over half a million refugees). The poverty was further compounded by a perpetuate drought in 2011, the worst seen across East Africa for over 60 years.

The drought resulted in a large scale famine across the region.  Khalsa Aid sent Khalsa aid trustee Jaswinder Singh to analyse the situation on the ground. After communicating with the UNHCR and other, appropriate bodies a number of areas were identified where Khalsa Aid could provide humanitarian aid. 

Khalsa Aid supported  its longstanding partnership with ‘The Sikhs of Kenya’ (SoK) to deliver humanitarian aid. This partnership meant that SoK matched Khalsa Aid funding recess renounce.

Over 100 tonnes of food supplies were delivered and distributed across 21 boarding schools in the local region. Food supplies included maize flour, beans, cooking oil and fortified food meals from the World Food Programme (WFP) to battle severe malnutrition

KENYA WATER HOLE 2012

Khalsa Aid were approached local communities in Kenya who had no connection to clean drinking water and required support in building appropriate facilities.

Khalsa Aid field operatives made an initial assessment and       collaborated with local organisation, Ramgarhia Youth Association (RYA) to build water facilities.

Over 1,000 local people profited from the water pump.

UTTRAKAND FLOODS 2013

In June 2013, Uttarakhand was affected by  devastating floods and landslides becoming the country’s worst natural disaster since the 2004 tsunami. 

In the second phase of the relief project, Khalsa Aid team  provided over 1,000 packaged relief items to people affected by the natural disaster. Each package contained: rice, sugar, lentils, salt, oil, spices, soap and toothpaste.

MUSAFFRABAD RIOTS 2013

The clashes between the Hindu and Muslim communities in Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh, September 2013 resulted in more than 60 deaths including 42 Muslims and 20 Hindus and around 100 injured  and left more than 50,000 displaced. By 17 September, the curfew was lifted from all riot affected areas and the army was also withdrawn.

October 2nd 2013 Khalsa Aid ( Panjab Team ) carried out large scale  evaluation at the temporary refugee camps in the Indian state of UP. These people were escaping  from the  inter-communal crashes  which has displaced 10000s of people, many others have lost their lives.

After the evaluation  as per need, Khalsa aid team decided to distribute blankets and battery lights.

Khalsa Aid prepared 1000 hand held torches to those affected by the recent communal violence in UP, India. The makeshift camps were mostly without electric, these torches were helped the frail and elderly to get about in the dark and also distributed 1000 Blankets.

Khalsa Aid spent around 4.5 Lacs Indian Rupees for almost 2 weeks and helped 2500 people suffering from it.

THEY WILL CONTINUE THEIR SERVICE AND WILL CONTINUE TO SERVE TO HUMANITY
