Pro-chancellor of AMU Nawab Ibne Saeed Khan Chhatari dead

Nawab Ibne Saeed Khan Chhatari,  Pro-chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, died on Tuesday. He was 98 years old. A few days ago he has tested Covid Positive. Later the report also came negative. He was dealing with his illness for a long time.

Apart from serving as Pro-chancellor of AMU, he also served as Treasurer, Secretary of the Old Boys Association and member of several bodies including the University Court & Executive Council.

The family of Nawab Ibne Saeed belongs to Chhatari. His father Nawab Ahmed Saeed Khan Chhatari was the Prime Minister of Hyderabad and the Governor of Uttar Pradesh before independence.

He studied at the Mohammedan Anglo College (now AMU). He made an active contribution in the establishment of the university. He has built a tennis court in the university. Which is now in his own name.

According to Dr. Rahat Abrar, an expert Of history in AMU, Nawab Ibne Saeed’s grandfather Nawab Lutf Ali Khan Chhatari was the secretary of the reception committee at the time of the establishment of Mohammedan Anglo College in 1877.

The responsibility of the president was taken over by Raja Bakar Ali Khan of Pandaval. When the Viceroy Lord Littin preserved the Time Capsule in the ground at the time of the establishment of the college, Nawab Lutf Ali Khan gave him gold, silver and copper coins by placing them in bottles.

These coins were also preserved in the ground. Dr. Rahat Abrar told that Nawab Ibne Saeed Chhatari had built a personal museum in his house. In which many memories have been cherished from independence till now.

AMU VC Prof. Tariq Mansoor expressed sadness over Nawab’s death and said that He gave a long time to serve the university. His passing is a personal loss to me.

He will be buried in Chhatari District of Bulandshahr his ancestral place on Wednesday.
