uK wants the world to get vaccinated by the end of next year

The UK Prime Minister would want to use the Group of Seven Wealthy Democracies Summit in the next week to request world leaders to vaccinate the global population by the end of next year.

Johnson is going to stress on the importance of global vaccination drive on Friday in Cornwall for the first physical G-7 summit since the pandemic had began.

He said on Sunday, “The world is expecting from us to rise to the greatest challenge of a postwar era, i.e., defeating COVID and the road to global recovery, which is driven by our shared values. If we vaccinate the whole world by the end of next year, it would be nothing less than a medical history.”

Leaders like US President Joe Biden and leaders from Canada, France, Italy and Japan are going to arrive in Cornwall on Friday for a three day talk, whose main focus would be on the global recovery from the pandemic.

The UK government had decided in February to give the surplus vaccine supply of Covax to the country as it is already backed by the United Nations program, which aims to supply the vaccines jabs to the poorer countries.

It is not quite clear as to how many doses would the country donate. The country has a population of 70 million and has ordered 400 million doses of vaccines. UK’s Health Secretary Matt Hancock had indicated that the country does not have access to the vaccines at the moment and they are just getting that as quickly as possible.

According to a report in the Sunday Times, the UK Prime Minster is likely to announce at the summit that the country is going to donate over 2 Billion pounds jabs this year, with further donations in the next year.

Meanwhile, the US has planned to share 80 million doses of the country’s surplus vaccines globally by June end and that too through Covax.
