Are Women Safe Anywhere In India?

TW: Mentions Of Rape

I am a girl and I have a question which I always keep asking myself, where are we safe? Why do we keep fearing for our safety? Who is responsible for this? Such questions are always born in my mind because of the society we are in today. We get to hear very shocking news every day. There are stories of girls being raped while going to school. Sometimes a driver does it, sometimes a bus driver, a chaiwallah, an auto-driver, the list does not end. We are told that girls are not safe outside.

However, there are many reports that this happens to the women living in the house as well. I am from Munirka, Delhi Opposite JNU. On 16 December 2012, a girl was gang-raped in a moving bus in Delhi. Due to the Nirbhaya case, there was a negative impact all over the world and the image of the country had become shameful. According to the latest data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), 88 cases were registered every day in India in 2019. In the year 2019, a total of 32033 cases were registered in the country, out of which 11% of the victims were from the Dalit community.

Now I have a question to all the girls of the country who celebrate Rakshabandhan, the festival of India with great enthusiasm, keep a fast for their brother and take a promise from their brother with a gift that their brother will protect them and they will protect each other. If a person sees with an evil eye, then even their eyes are taken out in their hands and they give it.

Alright, it’s all right. My question is why does he only promise to protect her. Why not add another promise with a promise that he never does anything wrong with a girl or let it happen. Why? Don’t you think that adding this promise can overcome some rapes and we girls have some hope about being safe? May we get out of this.
