2020-21 was like no other, the Korean series was among the trended watching among Indians to stay entertained in a pandemic.

Let’s check out How?

In today’s age, binge-watching is among the most popular trend, but during the pandemic and lockdown, this trend has been way higher than normal times and people has started investing their time in fantasying the shows, one of them is K-dramas, which has gotten widely accepted and loved in Indian generations.

According to statistics, on JioSaavn, an Indian music-streaming platform, BTS was ranked 68th in January 2020 with around 780,000 audiences listening. But this spot moved on to 8th by October 2020 with over a 2.3Million streams. Gradually with the surge of K-pop music, it also took over to south Korean Hallyu among Indians. Which has made Indians keen to learn the Korean language, their Korean culture like different cuisines, makeovers, etc.

Alisha Rai, a 22-year-old resident from Indore tells that her favourite part of K-dramas is because of its short and compact plots, which makes it perfect for binge-watching unlike Indian ones, which are more draggy and exaggerating.

Another resident Shubhankit Paul from Indore says,“ he loves to watch k-dramas because of its short scripts, plots and due to lowering of its language barrier”. He said OTT platforms have increased the love for k-dramas like Netflix, where people can get access to great stories irrespective of their location and language.

From Korean OTT serials to K-beauty, its language, or k-pop music. Indian’s love for South Korean culture is undeniable and has gone mainstream in recent times. Well seems this Hallyu or Korean wave will not soon end. It will be worth seeing what new elements will come in near future for the same.
