Partha Seal is a Silchar-based photojournalist who believes in the sheer power of Nature. At the same time, he also wants to capture human emotions, one of the toughest tasks for a photographer. In fact, he wants to project human emotions through his photography. Though he worships Nature by taking photographs of its elements, Partha sits for hours for a natural phenomenon to occur. He captures Nature in its most beautiful form.
Partha also excels in capturing meaningful photographs of abstract themes and ideas, living beings and concrete objects. It seems as if he meditates with his camera lenses and produces one masterpiece after another. This celebrated photographer is currently working as a photojournalist at a widely circulated Bengali daily Bartalipi. He has taken the world of Barak Valley’s photojournalism by storm.
Come marriage season, and all photographers will be busy with work. Despite his many assignments, this award-winning photojournalist has never let passion suffer at the hands of his profession. Partha’s both profession and passion are photography and he never misses an opportunity to capture the rarest of moments. Going by the number of awards Partha has won, he has carved a niche for himself. He bagged the first prize in photography at the national level exhibition Khadi Utsav 2013 under the aegis of Khadi and Village Industries Commission.
It may be mentioned here that Partha shot into the limelight by assisting his brother Biswajit Seal, a brilliant documentary, telefilms and short-films maker, in Ananto Anneshon in 1980s. The film, which was edited by Mani Nath, won accolades from all corners.
Partha has received several awards from socio-cultural organisations including Byatikram Masdo, Guwahati, Itkhola Club and others. His photographs on the River Barak opened new avenues for him as he could take part in a solo exhibition in New Delhi. In 2015, he took part in another solo photograph exhibition at Silchar, called ‘Gaan Mela’. The Assam University, for the last few years, has been adorning its calendar with Partha’s photographs.
In addition to this, his photographs have adorned the cover page and other pages of a number of international and national magazines, including Art n Deal, Discover Northeast and Travel n Deal. Images of Durga Puja, Nouka Puja, Khaspur and other historical captured by him have been a subject of discussion for art and photography lovers. Since then, there has been no looking back for him.
He has worked with both Guwahati and Silchar Doordarshan for their documentary section. Partha’s name became more prominent when he began working for Ananda Bazaar Patrika. His association with Ananda Bazaar Patrika itself speaks volumes about the merit of his work.
No one captures human emotions better than he does. He can sit for hours to capture life’s best moments and and can be out for clicking photographs at any point in time.
His family has always supported and encouraged him to pursue his dreams. Partha, too, had a tough time and faced many hurdles on his way to success. The quality and content of his photographs has influenced many. He began working with M7 and M5 cameras mounted on his shoulders. Nowadays, things have become easier. One does not have to wait with a tape recorder to get original sounds.
Times have changed a lot and there is a gulf of difference between the technology of yesteryears and the present one. His brothers Biswajit Seal, Prashanta Seal, Pranab Seal, family, friends and relatives have supported him throughout his journey.
Partha has captured pictures primly focus on Barak Valley and its rich culture, heritage and tradition of this valley. Photography is his lifeline. He has taken photography to the next level. A seminal tome on his chequered life seems probable soon.
