“The Indecision About 12th Boards Left Us Restless And Infuriated”

The indecision of educational boards all over India left us students anxious, stressed, restless and infuriated.

We all tried to fill in the blanks that were thrown at us, except this time, it was not on a question paper and there was no right or wrong answer, but just a constant feeling of uncertainty in the back of our heads.

I never want to go back to a time where the only other matter on people’s minds and WhatsApp groups was whether or not Board exams would take place, the hows, the how nots, the if not then hows, the incessant news, the phone calls, just about everything felt overwhelming. I mean, what happened to the good morning forwards I used to receive every day from my mother?

Most students across the country thought everyone else was in the same boat as them but that was far from true. Behind the scenes of everyone fussing over something so dispensable, someone somewhere had just lost a dear one.

A parent, a sibling, and even a partner. What were they expected to do at a time like this? Bow to fate, and study? I was disappointed and frustrated with how long it took to render such a simple solution when all the facts and considerations were laid out. Common sense and logic seemed to be latecomers to the pandemic party. Not to mention, our final results would depend on our performances in the 10th and 11th-grade exams as well. Who even takes 11th grade seriously? I am one tweet away from starting a revolution.

The next drumfire of frustrating uncertainty was fired by colleges. The same internal dispute went on with entrance exams and interviews. Luckily for me, I was never a victim of the tedious selection process of Indian colleges except for the cunning fee refund policies they have.

Usually, before we embark on our college journeys, we compile a long to-do list that we must complete before we are allowed to ascend. For me, it was always getting my first tattoo, dyeing my hair, getting a graduation party, and going on a girls-only trip to Goa. Scratch that, society already crushed that last one.

Sadly, it’s going to be us and our black mirrors yet again this year, but, hey, at least we are not the batch of 2022.
