Al Qaeda Suspects In UP: Why National Security Comes Under Threat Right Before Elections

Why does the threat to national security and sovereignty pick up around elections? How is the criteria of distinguishing a terrorist act defined and described? As for the ADG Law and Order of Uttar Pradesh, Prashant Kumar, while addressing the media in Lucknow, detailed how the Al Qaeda was planning to attack North Indian cities and towns around Independence Day.

Busting a modus operandi is different from establishing a motive and connection to the case. Aren’t they professionals? Or braving themselves up at the behest of their bosses? For it should be clarified to the common and ordinary of the State. This isn’t being done for the Uttar Pradesh police, who is failing in its commitment with a contempt and is by the side of their bosses, severely impairing the morale of the dry honest officers and investigators working on their toes day in and out.

I strongly believe that a police chief shouldn’t sound like a mouthpiece of the ruling regime. He should keep himself away from this political slugfest. Opposition parties are the best bet when it comes to picking and presenting positions, rather than senior bureaucrats persuading public opinions and sentiments.

Arguably, under the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Uttar Pradesh, the situation has rapidly declined, as demonstrated by the spate of marked incidents of violence and vandalism in the recently concluded Panchayat elections. Power has to be grabbed and snatched either by hook and crook, or thin skinning liabilities and responsibilities.
