Why ‘Dhyaan Yoga’ Should Be A Part Of School Curriculum

According to a research in 2020, 56 million Indians suffer from depression, and another 38 million suffer from an anxiety disorder. In 2019, 10,335 students died by suicide due to depression, mental health issues and addiction to drugs. Today’s youth suffers from anxiety, depression, addiction and heart attack since a young age.

In the 21st century, it becomes essential for the government to take vital decisions towards this concern and make yoga compulsory in schools. Dhyaan yoga or mind exercise should be a part of a student’s curriculum, which is helpful for today’s competitive society atmosphere. We have to work on the basics of traditional teaching and bring it to back in daily use because it’s essential for today’s Indian society.

Modern education system depends on the sharpness of mind, but this means only training our conscious minds. In a result-oriented system, students start facing mental pressure from a very small age. But traditional Indian teaching system focus on awareness as well as the unconscious part of the mind.

In ancient civilizations, Gurukul teaching would start for kids at the age of 10-12 years. Up to that age, a child’s mind develops and is in good form to take knowledge. But now, after just a period 2-3 years, parents want to admit their children in school. From their very upbringing and fresh age, parents try to sharpen their young one’s mind in place of intellect. And that’s why yoga is the need of our curriculum as it will help students in the development of their memory, ability to remember and understand new things.

Yoga is also a requirement of elder youths. Today’s kids go to school, tuition centres, prepare for competitive exams, and mostly spend their time on electronic gadgets in place of doing outdoor activities. This lifestyle is both mentally as well as physically straining on them. Yoga helps them relieve their stress and calm down.

It help students to develop creativity, imagination and handling negative emotions. Yoga help students handle anxiety and irritability during competitive exams. Yoga in schools curriculum helps in supportive ways in society, It creates a base of a mentally healthy generation in society can decrease mental health issues.
