One and half years of Covid-induced Lockdown has almost broken the back of our economy which suggests the situation across the country. Students are somehow managing their academic stuff through their only left choice, which is makeshift. Most of the classes are being held online, which demands a laptop and strong internet bandwidth.
All these necessities have added to the expenditure required to continue pursuing education. While students and parents are fighting this overwhelmed situation, colleges and institutes have issued a notice regarding fee deposition.
Sufferings Of Parents During Pandemic
Covid has killed people directly and indirectly as well. If it hasn’t knocked on the door, then it has consumed people in recession. Parents came out to be the greatest sufferers, not for their own cause but for they are unable to meet the needs of their child. The only dream they are living with is, they wanted to educate their child.
But now it seems to be shattered when they are being asked for the fee by some fee monsters. Colleges have threatened them indirectly that if they are unable to pay the fee of their ward, within the expected date, they will take strict actions, like refusing students from taking their exams. Parents don’t deny paying fees but they wanted some time to manage to collect money. Currently, they are out of cash, but they will be able to manage after the situation is restored.
Students’ Roar Surged On Social Media Platforms
Once again students have proved their potential using social media platforms. Gone are the days when students had to block the street to raise their voice, they now do it through digital platforms. Now social media platforms are used to ask for the most important demand. Twitter has been drowned with hashtags, criticizing colleges and universities.
Cartoonists are providing them with visually critical and funny cartoons. They are punishing them for this shameful act. Besides criticizing, they also put forward their demands, which says, they will pay their fee in three to four installments, relief for some unable students, etc.
Education Slipping Away Out Of Fundamental Rights
The right to education comes under the fundamental rights guaranteed by our constitution to every citizen of India. Denying students taking their exams only on the grounds of late fees curtails their basic rights. It is the duty of the government to restrain colleges and institutes from issuing this kind of notice when we are facing a merciless pandemic.
We all have been equally hit by the situation, it hasn’t occurred particularly. So, the government ought to responsibly help students in coming out of this complicated situation.
AICTE Asked Colleges Not To Insist On Students Paying The Full Fees For This Academic Year
All India Council for Technical Education has finally urged all the higher educational institutes in the country not to force students to make the full payment of fees for this academic year amid the current Covid-19 pandemic situation. Students could otherwise pay their fee in three to four installments throughout the year in their respective colleges.
Acknowledging the severity of the situation caused by the Covid this year, like losing jobs and financial downfalls AICTE has issued this statement, in the interest of the students across the country. It has also issued some guidelines to all institutes so that students could continue to pursue their education. The Council asked Colleges to provide internet bandwidth for students within their vicinity.
