‘Parameters For Our Worth’: How Grade Obsession Affects Mental Health

Recently I watched a television series known as “Sky Castle”. This series shows how we are obsessed about getting ourselves enrolled in those top universities. However after I finished watching the series , it made me realise that we live in a world where grades have become the only parameter to test our worth.

The obsession has reached to such a peak that we lose out on our mental health, extra curriculars and worse, our happiness. I am sure most of us are aware of the fact that grade obsession is bad.

Even then why can’t we let go of this obsession? Even though we are aware of its effects, this desire to be successful, to get ourselves into the best college , to get that perfect job has completely blinded us.

The most important aspect of education is retaining the knowledge but in reality, instead of focusing on the power to learn, retain knowledge, and interpret these learnings, grades have become so important that we feel like our world is coming to an end when we don’t get that perfect grade.

I just hope sooner or later we will learn how to remove ourselves from this rat race and live our lives because life and success is not just about getting into these top universities and getting straight ‘A’s.
