Yes, you read it right, sustainable fashion! But how is fashion sustainable? Isn’t sustainability related only to agriculture?
Well, I know it’s the era of changing fashion trends and experiments with fabrics along with prints but how is it affecting our lives and the environment? For example, Nylon and polyester are made from petrochemicals. These synthetics are non-biodegradable and nitric dioxide is released during their manufacturing process. Other processes such as dyeing and bleaching pollute water and make them untreatable.
Wikipedia describes sustainable fashion as a movement and process of fostering change to fashion products and the fashion system towards greater ecological integrity and social justice. An adjacent term to sustainable fashion is eco-fashion. The concern is to conserve land, water, and biodiversity that is being polluted due to harmful chemicals used during the production
Sounds a little downscale but it’s a step towards being a change in this fast-moving world and creating a sustainable environment.
