Poem: Why Am I A Feminist?

This is an image of a poster that reads feminist and proud

Because the so-called civilised masses are full of vile and dishonourable men who burst with pride by humiliating women.

Because I live in a society where a woman’s character is always questioned.

Because this world is insanely obsessed with the virginity of women.

Because the hands decorated with bangles also know the art of smashing.

Because I’m not ready to burn my dreams in the furnace.

Because I call out the gender-oriented stereotypes and prejudice against women.

Because I believe in equality with differential treatment.

Because I’m not ready to bow down in front of the patriarchal society.

Because I want to uproot the system which was built by suppressing women.

Because every oppressed face reminds me of Mariam Jo.

Because she taught me in the end what all women can do.
