Quick Byte: What Has WFH Been Like For A Fresher

Being a fresher, it is my first time ever that I get to continue the work that I used to do in office premises from my room. Yes, my room. I won’t say from my home, because I share a flat which has three rooms with four friends.

When we first heard that a lockdown was going to be implemented throughout the country, from the very next day, we were asked to carry our system and essential peripherals along with us. That moment was quite surprising and uncommon for all of us.

The minds of freshers like me were full of questions and confusion. How would all of this work?

We were helped by our seniors, not just when we started WFH, but even after that. They coordinate with us whenever it is required. Now, everything seems to be as normal as it was in the office. We are still dealing with a lockdown.

The only downside to working from home is not being able to interact with one’s colleagues, face-to-face. Representational image.

My bedroom has become my cubicle now. The plates from my kitchen have replaced my lunch box. Although one is in touch with their colleagues, socially, one maintains a physical distance from them. The only thing I miss is the direct interactions with them and I am sure that nothing can replace this.

We are lucky enough that we can WFH, too. In the present situation, where many industries have had to stop their work completely, WFH has proven to be a boon for our our organisation and our industry at large.

Anyway, WFH is not going to affect those organisation who measure productivity by objectives, and not by how long we are visible in our work stations.

I hope things will normalise soon and that we can all work together under the same roof once again, with the same smiles.
