There is a great buzz of sports around all social media platforms. Tokyo Olympics is the reason behind it. India performed not up to the mark as always, but some names are very serious contenders to keep a watch for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
India underperformed in all the shooting events, though we had big names like Sourabh Chaudhry and Manu Bhakar at Tokyo Olympics, They failed in soaking the pressure. In the 15 events that India had representation in, only Sourabh Chaudhry qualified for finals.
After Rio, Tokyo also resulted in a terrible debacle. In weightlifting, only Chanu Saikhom Mirabai (world champion and world record holder in clean and jerk event ) qualified for Tokyo and won the Silver medal on the very first day. And almost the same case in other sports events.
Unfortunately, we didn’t win in the events in which we were hot favourites. But considering their game and other factors, there are several names which we can bet on in 2024.
In shooting, our contingent is good enough to win medals. All we need to do is to prepare them mentally. They were unable to soak pressure and made basic mistakes. Sourabh, Manu, Abhishek, Anjum and all the other shooters are good bets for 2024 and they must be trained like hell from today.
In Table Tennis, Manika Batra and Gunasekaran are the names to watch. They are young and pretty talented. Though Gunasekaran failed to perform up to the mark in Tokyo, his game raised hopes for 2024. Manika performed considerably good and went up to the quarterfinals. These are the two names to watch closely.
In Boxing, Lovlina Borgohain, current bronze medalist in the Olympics, is the biggest hope. Other boxers to watch out for are Amit Panghal, the Asian Games gold medalist. Satish Kumar fought with a lion heart in the quarterfinals against the top-seeded boxer. Manish Kaushik and Ashish Kumar are two other names to be taken into consideration for 2024.
Indian Men and Women hockey team played the best of the whole Indian contingent for the Tokyo Olympics. Both the teams reached the semi-finals and at the point of writing this article, both the teams have a chance of winning the bronze medal. Both men and women hockey teams played like champions in the whole tournament and they are one of the best bets for 2024.
In athletics, Neeraj Chopra, Tejinder Pal Singh Toor and Kamal Preet Kaur are the names to become biggest for India in Paris. Neeraj Chopra is a hot favourite for Gold in Tokyo. His final event is on 7 August.
