Punjab And Chhattisgarh Crisis: Is This The Fall Of The Congress?

The Congress is still staring at the prospect of engaging and entertaining its ranks and cadres for innovatively inspiring a strategy for resurrecting and reviving its electoral fortunes. Marred by trades, tussles and clashes of aspirations and ambitions, the party shies away from articulating amendments to balance itself as a political force. Party members must also redress genuine complaints and grievances instead of just giving them a glance.

From Jyotiraditya Rao Scindia to Sushmita Dev, the Gandhi family has always been in denial with the merits and methods of planning, formulating and fostering ties and alliances suiting its aims and objectives. The fact remains that the party, after its electoral debacle in the 2019 General elections, is functioning without a full-time President, with Rahul Gandhi only convening and presiding the sessions of important decision-making committees from top to bottom without his feet to the ground. As for the factional feuds in the Congress, state units are scuttling all their scope.

L-R: Bhupesh Baghel, Rahul Gandhi, Amarinder Singh

The party has been striving and struggling both in Punjab and Chattisgarh by not putting the cart before the horse, and rather rearranging and reordering all that lies scattered and spoiled. I firmly see no demerit in Captain Amarinder Singh and Bhupesh Baghel in ensuring accountability and transparency in governance. Why, then, should they unnecessarily bother and worry anyone? Disagreements and discontent around leadership can be detailed out and discussed rather than given as a projection of political might and masculinity.

Who asked Bhupesh Baghel to bring and book all his 70 legislators to Delhi and for what? Why are Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu relying on unqualified obedience and loyalty from their legislators in Punjab? Have they feared the worst? I am not sure about their shortcomings and scepticism towards returning to power, but one thing becomes amply clear for the Congress to bounce back: it must advise and consult party units in states to raise the spirits of the party members and offer review where the party finds itself in a tight.

As for the secular, liberal and constitutional conception of rights and liberty, these values have hit the roadblock under an establishment that favours collective narcissism over anything and everything.
