Poem: I Sing A Sad Song

An Indian woman is sad. Her arms are crossed and her head is resting on her arms.

May I sit with you and sing a sad song?
A final chorus about what was wrong,
Twixt you and I. Oh, it hurts so much
to know I will miss your loving touch.

Our flaws and faults allow for crying,
My spirit is in anguish and slowly dying.
My soul is torn and drowning in fright,
This ballad is too hard to sing tonight.

I’d spin words of a magical incantation,
and fill our mugs with drafts of libation,
if I thought it was in my hands to do so,
but our passion is as cold as falling snow.

What was it that finally did us both in?
My world is dark, I’m in constant chagrin.
You and I had so many ups and downs,
and now our parting has us clad in frowns.

I should walk away from you in this rain.
because my vision is swimming with liquid pain.
I’ll go, but first I must say that I was wrong,
to think I could finish singing this sad song…
