“Economic, Physical And Social Empowerment Do Not Ensure Women’s Security”

*Trigger Warning: Mention Of Rape*

Did your hand not shiver while stabbing on my flesh?
Did your soul not sob while chopping my flesh?
You have already humiliated my existence,
Is this much barbarianism not enough for you?

Representative Image.

One more Nirbhaya was gang-raped and killed 2 days back in Haryana. This time just the name and year varies. Sabiya is now the victim of beast lineage, once more the whole of humanity butchered. The important thing is she is in the Delhi defence, joined 4 months back, a serving officer. One thing that is apparent in the given situation is that economic, physical and even social empowerment do not ensure women’s security.

So, where should we be hopeful for humane security?

Many schemes are at the forefront for women like NYI Roshni, UDAAN, etc., for empowerment, especially economic enhancement. To whom will these schemes target, the flesh of Sabiya, Nirbhya, Unao, Kathua, Disha?

What’s fundamental requirement is the deterrence in society against the criminals. A strong capital punishment against the convicted criminals. However, it’s debatable on the criminal justice system, but at least a consideration is needed to protect the respect of half of the population.

Either you (government and society) show some concern on crimes and conviction rate, which is now just 30% (according to the NCRB), or bury your daughter, mother, sister into the land to at least give a dignified death.
