DTCP teams to survey pending infrastructure in 11 colonies of Gurugram

Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) commissioner Mukesh Kumar Ahuja on Wednesday directed the department of town and country (DTCP) to form special teams and prepare cost estimates for completing deficient infrastructure work in 11 private colonies. The move is aimed at expediting the takeover of these colonies, which the Haryana chief minister had announced in 2017.

MCG officials said while eight of these colonies — Mayfield Garden, Malibu Towne, Sushant Lok-2 and 3, Greenwood City, Rosewood City, Vipul World and Uppal Housing have given their consent for takeover by the corporation, they haven’t received consent from Ardee City and DLF-4 and 5.

“Executive engineers will visit these colonies and conduct a survey to identify infrastructure deficiencies. They will then make colony-wise inventories and submit them to the DTCP director. MCG will then ask the department to divert funds taken from the developers of these colonies to the corporation to complete the work before taking over the areas,” MCG chief town planner Madhusmita Moitra Singh told TOI.

MCG chief Ahuja gave the directions for the special teams in a meeting on Wednesday. “We asked for consent from the developers of these colonies. MCG has received consent from all developers except Ardee City, DLF-4 and 5. We will be able to proceed further after we get a report on deficient work,” a senior official present in the meeting said. A review would be done on September 23.

The civic body is supposed to handle utilities for privately licensed colonies. This includes water, drainage, roads and street lighting, after taking over a colony, as per its plan. The process includes identifying infrastructural deficiencies and preparing estimates to complete the pending work. In case the developer fails to complete the pending work within a stipulated time. MCG carries it out at the cost of the developer.

It has been four years since the CM made the announcement for the takeover of the 11 private colonies. In December 2019, the Haryana government-directed MCG to expedite the process. The corporation had then sought information from DTCP on the building plan, the layout of stormwater drains, water and sewerage lines, parks, the total number of plots, year of construction and status of community centers in these colonies.
