Indian foreign policy has to be revived afresh to tackles changes at the international level. I understand that Prime Minister Modi’s US tour could have presented the occasion and opportunity to debate and deliberate upon areas and themes enhancing and impacting their trade and ties through critical engagements. On the contrary, New Delhi appears in limbo with domestic politics ranging large. Remember, Namastey Modi and Howdy Modi campaigns which saw the Indian Prime Minister toeing the fine line and balance of international law and diplomacy.
Does it behove a Prime Minister who has been a spokesperson for economic prosperity and reforms benefitting a few at the expanse of others with glaring gaps influencing its outcome? From Ujjwala to Jan Dhan, all the schemes looked resounding at the policy level but are otherwise artificial and cosmetic. Broadcasts and billboards went hand in hand with campaigns as for foreign policy which is altogether a different ball game. Shouldn’t this regime with a penchant for propaganda and rhetoric wonder why Japan and Australia won the exclusive right in the Indo Pacific region for checking the ascendancy of India?
Why US President Joe Biden was doubtful of India’s capacity in taking the chance and challenge? Was it sceptical or cynical given Modi’s endorsement for ab ki baar Trump Sarkaar reminding Modi of his duties to preserve and safeguard dissent and democracy being the soul and heart of our constitution? Whatever it is I am to understand that it will take time for us to win back the support of the US establishment as for our diverse diaspora altering the orientation, outcome and perceptions.
Remember, Global Politics is about to give and take cultivated around good humour and harmony and by not being naive.
