“I Will Always Be Judged By People Who Know Me For The Time I Didn’t Clear JEE”

The hypocrisy of the mediocre Indian society has stopped so many of us from doing what we are good at and makes us focus our energy on seemingly better achievements and sure-shot wins.

This post is about something that I am going through and believe that most Indian students go through but prefer to keep quiet about because the fault is always of an 18-year-old: the cut-throat competition, the desire for idealistic success and failures that define you for life.

We are all aware of the JEE exams. Well, I gave it too and fell through, though not that bad. But the conclusion that matters is that I failed one single competition and now it should become a tag for my future. How come? When did people become so naive to let one single examination decide the capabilities of more than 10 lakh students?

Now I am not going to rant about it because I failed. After all, I never intended to pass it in the first place. I did it for formality, which is the case for most students who appear for the exams; it’s not a wish but forced.

People who do ace these exams are intelligent, but that doesn’t mean that those who don’t are worthless. Just because something’s different doesn’t make it wrong. And to think that aspirants commit suicide if they fail is beyond acceptance. To think that these thoughts grow in them because they have nowhere to go for help when they fail. All they are taught is to know what to do if they succeed.

Failure is not an option. Unfortunately, that’s what we hear in most motivational videos, for I have had my fair share of them. I know I might still get into a good college, but I will always be judged by people who know me for the time I didn’t clear JEE.

Who’s to be blamed? No one knows, for it’s a maze. Parents expect from children; children go to their teachers for guidance; teachers tell them to achieve success and warn them about failing, for their parents are spending money and then parents are worried if they are still giving their all and what results they might get.

I just wish this would stop and people could sway a little from the ordinary. And if anyone who reads this went through the same thing, please tell me; it would help a lot.
