Poem: Was It You Or Was It Me? All I Wanted Was Our Dreams

Trigger Warning: Mention of abuse.

O, hey charmer, there you are!
Cannot remember a time when,
You and I weren’t but one!

Your eyes tell me that you love me,
Your lips placed on my thirsty lips,
screaming out your love for me.

As we part, your lips mouth those words,
whispering your love for me.

I, yearned forever to be with you
Fought against the world, for you!
Ever since I met you, O, charmer,
All I ever wanted was you.

You showed me dreams of the life we’d lead
The dreams were yours and I’d feel glee
You took me on the ride of my life,
You showed me the magic that our life would be.

Representational image.

I left the scheming world behind,
As I rushed into your arms
All I wanted was you and me,
All I wanted was our family.

All was well, we were in love
The days were light and the nights were wild

O, hey Charmer, there you are!
Cannot remember a time when,
You and I weren’t but one!

Then came the day, that I woke up
With bruises across my face
I saw them, yet did I really see?
I ran my fingers across the welts, that peppered my face
And yet, I told myself, it wasn’t you, it was me!

O, charmer, please tell me, Was it you or was it me?
O, charmer, all I wanted was our dreams,
Of love and life and family

O charmer, when I now look back,
When I actually do look back,
I cannot remember a time,
When you were not the narc
and I was not your empath!
