Why Is Having A Facial Associated With Masculinity?

Image showing a distressed man burdened with speech bubbles that say 'be a man'

We are under lockdown for ages. So it has come down to this. A facial. Using a facemask to stay relevant. Now we are definitely staying at home for such a long time as a new normal. My younger sibling thought I am the perfect sample to check out this cheap facial mask. It’s the other face mask, not the Corona facemask we usually wear to avoid the Coronavirus. This one covers the complete face, yet leaves the eyes and mouth open.

It felt soothing to my skin. As my mother put it, I am finally ready for these color-based discriminatory matrimonial sites to give out my biodata. I have a lighter tone of skin now. Well, 100 rupees facial bring out a smile and soft skin to you, whereas 6 hours and 50k worth chemotherapy session bring only pain with a financial burden. Recently many authors from the press proposed that men neglect wearing face masks during the COVID restrictions. You often see people fighting with Marshals on roads in your region.

I realized ongoing chemotherapy has frozen half of my face from inside, and I hope every Medical Oncologist in our country makes such nurturing facials compulsory for cancer patients with ongoing tiring and taxing chemotherapy sessions. In New York Times Article, Anand Giridharadas, the author who penned, ‘Winners Take All: The Elite Charade of Changing the World,‘ clearly states that there are men who think wearing a mask will make them vulnerable. Public Health researchers across the globe understand this gendered reaction towards masks.

Covering your face to avoid or reduce any kind of spread in Corona is important in the given lockdown. I follow it, I wish my city also follows it and doesn’t make it a masculinity issue.

My friend saw the image below and welcomed me, ‘Welcome to the world on another side of the mask.‘ Unfortunately, we associate this skincare product and process it with gender. Yeah, I am a 33-year-old young grown man and a facial or such facemask does not challenge your masculinity. You should try it too! Please wear other masks too, we are still negotiating with a deadly pandemic.
